HEX Staking

How locking HEX for a chosen length earns interest in more HEX β€” T-Shares, bonuses, penalties, and the bridge to Actuator.

What Is HEX Staking?

Staking means locking your HEX in the HEX smart contract for a length you choose β€” from 1 day up to 5,555 days (about 15.2 years) β€” to earn interest paid in newly minted HEX.  The longer and larger the commitment, the more you earn.

It is conceptually like a bank certificate of deposit (CD), with one important difference: it is self-custodial.  You hold your own keys, and the entire arrangement is enforced by code β€” there is no bank, broker, or middleman deciding whether you get paid.

How It Works β€” T-Shares

When you stake, you pick an amount of HEX and a length in days.  The contract then awards you T-Shares (Trillion-Shares) based on both the amount staked and the length chosen.

Daily interest from the protocol is distributed across all stakers in proportion to their T-Shares.  When your stake ends, you claim back your original HEX principal plus all the HEX interest it earned along the way.

One detail matters a lot: the HEX contract's T-Share price only ever goes up over time β€” it never decreases.  This means earlier stakers receive more T-Shares per HEX than later ones, rewarding people who stake sooner.

Longer Pays Better & Bigger Pays Better

Two bonuses decide how many T-Shares you get.  Longer Pays Better (LPB) grants more T-Shares for longer commitments: each day past the first adds to the bonus until it reaches +200% at 3,641 days, where the stake earns T-Shares as if it held 3x its HEX.  The bonus stops there β€” days 3,642 to 5,555 add no further Longer Pays Better bonus.

Bigger Pays Better (BPB) grants a smaller bonus for larger stake amounts, growing with size up to +10% at 150,000,000 HEX.  Together, these two bonuses mean that long, large stakes earn the most T-Shares β€” and therefore the most yield β€” per HEX: at most 3.1x, for 150,000,000 HEX or more staked for 3,641 days or longer.

Penalties β€” Why the Commitment Matters

A stake is a real commitment.  Ending it early β€” an Early End Stake β€” forfeits the interest earned over the first half of the stake (at least 90 days), and, if ended inside that window, also cuts into your principal.

Ending very late also carries a cost.  A stake never ends by itself: the owner sends the end-stake transaction.  From 14 days after the end day, a penalty of 1/700 of the principal plus payout is charged for each further day, so a stake left about 714 days past its end day returns nothing.  Anyone can freeze that penalty with Good Accounting.

Native Stakes vs Portable Stakes (HSIs)

A normal β€” or native β€” HEX stake is locked to a single wallet address.  It cannot be moved, sold, or transferred to anyone else.

A stake started through Hedron's HEX Stake Instance Manager as a HEX Stake Instance (HSI) is created inside its own small contract; tokenizing it, on any day from day one, mints an NFT that makes it portable and transferable.  An existing native stake cannot be converted β€” the choice is made at stake-start.  HSIs are the bridge that connects a stake to more advanced DeFi.

How Staking Connects to Actuator

Actuator.Finance lets you unlock liquidity from a locked stake without ending it early and paying penalties, when the tokens you mint mature on or after your stake's end day.  You either start a new stake through Actuator, which creates it as an HSI already delegated to it, or tokenize an existing HSI and delegate it to Actuator, then mint HEX Time Tokens (HTTs) against its value.

HTTs are tradable tokens you can sell today for HEX liquidity while your underlying stake keeps earning.  In effect, this turns an illiquid long-term stake into usable value you can access right now.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long can I stake HEX?

You can stake HEX for any length from 1 day up to 5555 days (about 15.2 years).Β  Longer commitments earn more T-Shares β€” and therefore more yield β€” per HEX through the Longer Pays Better bonus.

What are T-Shares?

T-Shares (Trillion-Shares) are units the HEX contract awards you when you stake, based on both the amount of HEX and the length of the stake.Β  Daily interest from the protocol is split across all stakers in proportion to their T-Shares.Β  The contract T-Share price only ever goes up, so earlier stakers receive more T-Shares per HEX than later ones.

Can I end a stake early?

Yes, with a penalty.Β  An Early End Stake gives up the yield of the stake's first half (at least 90 days' worth): ended after that window, the rest of the yield is kept; ended inside it, the penalty also cuts into the principal.

Can I sell my HEX stake?

A normal native stake is locked to one wallet and cannot be moved, sold, or converted β€” once started native, it stays native.Β  A transferable stake must be started as a HEX Stake Instance (HSI): you stake liquid HEX through Hedron's HEX Stake Instance Manager, and the stake is created inside a small contract of its own; tokenizing it mints an NFT that can be traded or delegated.

How does staking earn more?

More T-Shares means more yield.Β  Longer Pays Better rewards longer stake lengths (up to 3x, reached at 3,641 days; days past that add no more of this bonus), and Bigger Pays Better adds up to +10% for 150,000,000 HEX or more.Β  Long, large stakes earn the most.
